My Trading Tao Te Ching, part 2.

April 4, 2019

When people see some things as beautiful,

other things become ugly.

When people see some things as good,

other things become bad.

Being and non-being create each other.

Difficult and easy support each other.

Long and short define each other.

High and low depend on each other.

Before and after follow each other.

Therefore the Master

acts without doing anything

and teaches without saying anything.

Things arise and she lets them come;

things disappear and she lets them go.

She has but doesn’t possess,

acts but doesn’t expect.

When her work is done, she forgets it.

That is why it lasts forever.

— from “Tao Te Ching” by Stephen Mitchell

I might see opportunity where another Trader sees danger. An obvious setup to me might be an obvious no-play to another.

When I confidently take a long position, there is another Trader on the opposite side of the trade who feels just as strongly that the stock, option, or future is going to go the other way immediately. One cannot exist without the other. There is no charity on Wall Street.

Just as surely as unfavorable market conditions follow favorable ones, I can trust the ugly patterns will morph into new patterns revealing new opportunities. Trust in the cycles.

My task is to work with what the markets – the Master – gives me. I can do no more. Make the best trades I can based on the facts as I see them at the moment, then move on to the next one and forget about the last one. Do this over and over and the results will bear fruit.
